Vintage Notes

This year was characterized by being very dry, with an average of precipitation below the historical records of Mendoza. The minimum temperatures were the highest in the last 10 years and the days were very hot, especially in the months before the harvest. As a result, we have very concentrated grapes with great processing potential. February brings cooler days, in which we optimize harvesting logistics and manage to collect the grapes at the optimum moment of ripeness. At the beginning of March, all the grapes were in the winery.

vineyard

100% organic grapes from our vineyard in Jardín Altamira, located in Paraje Altamira, Valle de Uco, at 1,200 m above sea level. The grapes come from polygons with a large presence of granite rocks with associated calcium carbonate, and with silt profiles with disuel limestone. This vineyard is characterized by large stones and gravels covered in calcium carbonate, which occupy 85% of the soil, giving the wine elegance and minerality.

Winemaking

The grapes are selected on a double belt and incubated by gravity in small concrete piles without epoxy. There, alcoholic fermentation is carried out, with indigenous yeasts, at 26°C for 25 days. 30% graze during maceration. Minimum oenological intervention. This wine is not pumped over, as during this stage the sombrero is moved by piggeage, 2 times a day. The child is 20 months old, 50% in concrete containers and 50% in 3500 liter French oak foudres without roasting. Before fracturing, light filtration is carried out so as not to alter the quality of the wine, and it is aged for 6 months in bottles.

Tasting Notes

This harvest of our Malbec from Paraje Altamira was made entirely with grapes from our vineyard in Jardín Altamira. There, the soils filled with large stones covered in calcium carbonate are the support of vineyards that coexist with autochthonous flora and fauna, in an ecosystem that promotes biodiversity. This vineyard is completely certified organic. This wine has an intense burgundy color, with brilliant red hues. A fragrant wine, with notes of black fruits, such as ciruela, and florals, such as rainforest jasmine and white roses. The nose also shows aromas where the Paraje Altamira terroir is perceived in its essence: crushed stone, graphite, jarilla, leather and saline notes flood the nose. On the palate, it has an elegant entrance, with a fine and vertical concentration. It is a long wine in the mouth, with a perfect balance between calcareous tannins and acidity. Pose and the intensity and structure necessary to evolve wonderfully in the bottle.

Vintage Notes

The season began with a dry and fresh spring, which favored the good ones in the vineyard. Summer is characterized by moderate temperatures and a large amount of precipitation in February and March, the months in which the windstorm is carried out. At the end of the season, precipitation decreased and temperatures in the tuvieron large peaks remained moderate and stable, maintaining the bay’s turgency and avoiding over-ripe descriptors. These conditions decanted in wines with great freshness and aromatic expression, high color intensities, elegant tannins and a great structure.

vineyard

100% organic grapes from private holdings of the Jardín de Hormigas vineyard, located in Paraje Altamira, Valle de Uco, at 1,200 m above sea level. One of them has floors measuring 0.8 m. of lime with limestone, and granite with carbonate layers. The other one is 10 cm. of lime and clay and much lime burns with associated carbonates. This vineyard, managed with regenerative viticulture, is characterized by large stones and gravels covered in calcium carbonate, which occupy 85% of the soil, giving the wine elegance and minerality.

Winemaking

The grapes from each quarter are prepared differently, to measure. They are previously selected on a double belt, and incubated by gravity in small piles of concrete without epoxy. There, alcoholic fermentation is carried out, with indigenous yeasts, at 26°C for 25 days. Minimum extraction, semi-reductive fermentation. This wine is not pumped over, as during this stage the sombrero moves by pigeage, 3 times a day. The child is 15 months old, 50% in concrete piles and 50% in 3500 liter unroasted French oak barrels. Store in a bottle for a minimum of 12 months.

Tasting Notes

This Malbec from Paraje Altamira was made entirely with grapes from our Jardín de Hormigas vineyard. There, the soils filled with large stones covered in calcium carbonate are the support of vineyards that coexist with autochthonous flora and fauna, in an ecosystem that promotes biodiversity. This vineyard is 100% certified organic. The 2021 is the second harvest that comes completely from this vineyard. It shows a bright red color, pure and very lively, like this wine. In nose is complex; Presents fruity notes, of blue fruits, cranberries, cassis, and some cherry. Notes of jar, ground stone, violets, orange peel and white pepper appear. In your mouth you have a protagonist entrance. The limestone soils of this vineyard show themselves in the wine like an electric mouthfeel. The sensation in the mouth is at the same time reductive, like gunpowder, resulting in a Malbec with a lot of grip, power and strength. It has a great texture and elastic tannins. The finish is long, insists with marked notes of fruit, lime and herbs.
