Colonia Las Liebres Malbec

Vintage Notes

The season began with a dry and fresh spring, which favored the good ones in the vineyard. Summer is characterized by moderate temperatures and a large amount of precipitation in February and March, the months in which the windstorm is carried out. At the end of the season, precipitation decreased and temperatures in the tuvieron large peaks remained moderate and stable, maintaining the bay’s turgency and avoiding over-ripe descriptors. These conditions decanted in wines with great freshness and aromatic expression, high color intensities, elegant tannins and a great structure.

vineyard

Organic Malbec grapes from the very special polygons of our vineyard in Luján de Cuyo. Among them we can find patches of thin limestone associated with small rounded corners of granite. The preparation of the soil with wormwood humus, the management of the water and the organic coverings from the beginning began with the deep development of the roots, a key factor in achieving wines of quality and good natural freshness, especially in warm climates.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand and brought to the cellar, transferred by gravity to concrete containers, where fermentation takes place for 12 days with indigenous yeasts, at 26ºC. It was made using 15% raspon. Macerated for 20 days. When finding rocks in the profile and in the typical climate of our vineyard, we decided on a minimum elaboration with few movements and a fermentation kinetic that enhances the structure and texture that can give us calcium carbonate. The child is carried out in concrete containers for 6 months.

Tasting Notes

This wine is the result of the search for pure, organic and intervention-free Malbec. Ruby red in color with red and violet tints, on the nose it reveals aromas reminiscent of berries, thyme, manzanilla, with subtle hints of hinojo and yeso. The aniseed notes are replicated in the mouth, where we find a wine with textured tannins, with an intense entry, wide and fine, with a very marked fruity finish. Ideal to accompany meats, hard cheeses and roasted vegetables.

harvest

This was a shorter harvest than others, but no less intense. The season was marked by strong heatwaves, a year in which the physiological maturity was slightly delayed with respect to the organoleptic. Our work in the vineyard allowed us to obtain the desired alcohol and acidity just before the heat waves, preserving the fruit character and the tension of the skin of the berries. The season also had heavy rains, which threatened to delay the harvest. However, the rains stopped and gave us a window, just in time, to harvest our fruit with optimum ripeness and health. The cold of the last few weeks before harvest gave the grapes the necessary time to finish ripening and balance all their compounds. 2022 was a year with great concentrations, colors, and health, in which fruity and spicy notes prevailed.
