ALH APPELLATION GUALTALLARY

harvest

Our vineyards reached a balance this season, with improvements that we had been showing since the previous season. From a climatic perspective, in addition to many times in the late afternoon, 2019 recorded warmer maximum temperatures and colder minimum temperatures in comparison with historical data. This large thermal amplitude resulted in a notable presence of fruity flavors in the wines. The energy heat oils, typical of Mendoza, contributed concentration to the musts that, with the natural acidity that characterizes our vintages, produced excellent and very elegant wines this year.

vineyard

100% of this Malbec comes from the sandy loam soils of Gualtallary, at 1400 m above sea level. There, a high quantity of heavy elements, which include engravings and rocks covered in limestone and fractured limestone, represent between 50-70% of the total volume of soil, with a high percentage of free calcium carbonate in the profile, which contributes to the wine its fresh and mineral character.

elaboration

The grapes are selected on a double belt and incubated by gravity in small concrete tanks. Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts at 26°C for 20 days. The sombrero is moved by flooring during this stage, no reassembly with a pump is carried out. 85% of the wine is created for 20 months in 3500-liter French oak barrels without roasting, while the remaining 15% is created in concrete tanks without epoxy coating. Light filtration is carried out so as not to alter the quality of the wine, before fracturing. Store in a bottle for 12 months.

CATA’s notes

This is an explosive wine, which fills all the senses. A brilliant Malbec with a deep ruby color with violet hues. The nose shows herbaceous, fruity and saline notes; There are very present aromas of graphite, as well as thyme, cranberries, ciruelas and violets. This complexity on the nose is also appreciated on the palate, where we find a structured and vertical wine, with tannins with character. It has a great grip in the mouth and a long, fruity finish with mineral notes, typical of its place of origin: a vineyard with limestone soils on the heights of the Uco Valley.

harvest

The season began with a dry and fresh spring, which favored the good ones in the vineyard. Summer is characterized by moderate temperatures and a large amount of precipitation in February and March, the months in which the windstorm is carried out. At the end of the season, precipitation decreased and temperatures in the tuvieron large peaks remained moderate and stable, maintaining the bay’s turgency and avoiding over-ripe descriptors. These conditions decanted in wines with great freshness and aromatic expression, high color intensities, elegant tannins and a great structure.

elaboration

The grapes are selected on a double belt and incubated by gravity in small concrete tanks. Alcoholic fermentation for 15 days at 26°C with a total maceration of 25 days. Little and gentle daily movements, with great emphasis on balancing tannins. 2/3 of this wine was created in concrete tanks without epoxy coating; The remaining third was created in 3500 liter French oak barrels without roasting. Both children had a period of 15 months. Luego, we prioritize storage in a bottle for 10 months, before going on the market. The wine has light filtration.

CATA’s notes

Intense and profound are the characteristics that perfectly describe the 2021 harvest of our Gualtallary Malbec. It shows a ruby red color, with marked reflections and a violet soul. On the nose you can hear notes of raw and woody ciruela. As the wine opens, we can smell aromas of flowers and herbs, such as violets, jarilla, coirón. Fruity notes are also present, especially the mandarin peel and quintes. As with all our wines from this area, there is a very marked mineral note that reminds us of graphite. It’s a vertical wine in the mouth, it passes through like a spear and along the way it leaves fruity and herbal notes. The tannins are calcareous, firm, and enveloping. The wine has a raw and saline sensation at the end. It is a wine of high concentration, safe and of great purity of place.
