ALH BLANCO 2024

Uco Valley, Mendoza

Harvest

2024 was a vintage with cold and warm weather bouts combined and interspersed. Thanks to our team care and to regenerative agriculture we produced typical colder vintage wines: tense, juicy, and lively. The spring was cold, with several Zonda wind events causing frosts. These conditions led to a slow yet well-fulfilled completion of the phenological process, while posing challenges for the plants to set due to the wind, which also resulted in reduced canopies. The prelude to the harvest was an extensive heat wave that lasted more than 3 weeks, with maximum temperatures reaching around 40°C (104°F) and little thermal amplitude. This increased the sugar content, but at the same time, the pulp did not separate from the seed, yet retaining a very attractive natural acidity. As we approached the final stretch and the harvest, the fruit matured slowly, allowing us to wait and retain a good level of natural acidity and freshness. Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley experienced diverging weather conditions, with significant ripening variation observed between the two areas. The team followed the evolution of the process without respite, tailoring the harvest plot by plot, confirming once more that exceptional wines are indeed crafted in the vineyard.

Vineyard

Pergola trellised 80-year-old vines. The vineyards are located in the Uco Valley (San Carlos and Paraje Altamira), in areas with deep lime soils. The valley has a good range of temperatures between day and night, helping the grapes keeping their natural acidity.

Elaboration

The three grape varieties were harvested early, looking for natural acidity. Each one was vinified separately before the final blend, using different processes. Part of the grapes were elaborated in the traditional manner; some fermented with skins and others with 40% stems. All grapes were fermented with native yeasts, in concrete vats. It was aged for 6 months in concrete vats. No oak was used in the elaboration process.

Tasting note

This is a blend that shows its terroir with no make-up, combining Chenin Blanc, Pedro Gimenez and Semillon, three emblematic white Mendoza grapes. The wine shows a greenish yellow color with steel color hues. It has a complex and expressive nose, with notes of white pepper, kumquat, jarilla, white peach, jalapeño, white flowers, as well as a tropical note subtly reminiscent of passion fruit. The palate is very juicy and textured. The mouthfeel is fresh, with acidity leading the way. It has a saline finish with floral notes. It is a very drinkable wine, ideal to enjoy as an aperitif with personality or to pair with white meats, light sauces or ocean and river fish.
